How to Find EV Charging Stations

If you’ve been driving a regular gas-powered vehicle for years, you know that finding a place in or around Omaha to get gas is not a problem. But, if you’ve decided to upgrade to an electric vehicle, there aren’t nearly as many EV charging stations around town. This is why it pays to have a plan in place, and this should start by knowing about these public stations.

How Do Public Charging Stations Work?

Charging stations work pretty much like gas stations. You pull your vehicle up to a charger not in use, open the charging port, and plug the cord in. Then you just have to wait until your battery is sufficiently charged.

If you have – or will have – a charging station at your home, you may just need enough mileage to be able to get back there. It should be noted that while there are some free public charging stations, most charge between 40 and 60 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

Finding a Charging Station

While many new public stations are being constructed, right now it can be a little difficult to find one. This is especially true if you end up in an area you may not be too familiar with.

The good news is that there are a variety of apps that can help you locate the closest stations to you, including the MyChevy mobile app. In addition, some can also let you know if any of the chargers are being used at that moment.
